Maquoketa Motor Madness was founded in the fall of 2012 by a group of automobile enthusiasts wanting to bring a quality auto show to the Maquoketa area featuring a variety of vehicles. Four groups combined in an effort to accomplish this: The Jackson County Fair Board, The Maquoketa Area Chamber of Commerce, Darkside Promotions, and The Coronado Car Club. Decisions were made to make it a two day event starting on Friday. Invitations were extended to 30-35 auto enthusiasts to have their vehicles displayed inside Pearson Hall and to 15-20 motorcycle enthusiasts to have their bikes displayed inside Boyer Hall. In addition, there would be vendor booths outside Pearson Hall. Along with the other show cars there would be a swap meet on the fairgrounds. The motto became: “If it has wheels, We want it”. In addition to this, there would be races in front of the grand stand, live entertainment inside Volunteer Hall, and a burnout pit for everyone to enjoy. Sponsorships were sold and flyers were distributed in an effort to advertise the show. After much planning the first show was held in June of 2013 with 1893 spectators attending, along with 232 cars, and several swap meet and vendor spaces rented.

The show has increased attendance numbers and car count each year. It has become a family affair, adding a bouncy house, hot wheels track, and bicycle give-aways for the kids. The 50/50 drawing is used for scholarships in the automotive fields. Proceeds also go towards helping the Christmas Star Program and the area food pantry, along with improvements to the county fairgrounds. In 2015 Dave Palmer of 3-D Sound was added as the DJ and commentator on the grounds.
